About the LIDODERM Patch

LIDODERM ® (lidocaine patch 5%) is a prescription patch that offers a no-pill option to relieve your after-shingles pain1. LIDODERM has more than 10 years of use in treating after-shingles pain. It is the first and only lidocaine-based topical medicine approved by the FDA for after-shingles pain. Apply it only to intact skin (no blisters)1.

LIDODERM works directly at the site of your after-shingles pain

The Lidocaine medicine in the LIDODERM patch works right where your after-shingles pain is1. When used as directed, very little drug enters your bloodstream. Lidoderm can be used alone or with other medicines to treat your after-shingles pain1,2.

LIDODERM penetrates your skin and reaches your nerves, and has been shown to provide relief for after-shingles pain. It can be used daily with a low risk of interacting with other medicines you may be taking1,2. Tell your HCP about all of the medications your are taking, especially those for an irregular heartbeat.

LIDODERM: A custom fit for your after-shingles pain

When using LIDODERM remember these helpful points:

  • Patches can be custom cut before removing the release liner to cover the most painful area of your PHN pain1
  • You can wear up to 3 patches at a time, as directed by your healthcare professional, for 12 hours followed by 12 hours off1
  • Apply patches only to intact skin with no blisters1
  • Use it alone or with other medicines for after-shingles pain2
  • It's important to know that for some patients LIDODERM may provide pain relief with the first application, but it may take up to 2 weeks to achieve the best outcome1
  • LIDODERM is not a narcotic, not addictive, and will not make you drowsy1
  • If irritation or a burning sensation occurs, remove the patches immediately and consult your healthcare professional1
  • Fold used patches so that the adhesive side sticks to itself, and safely discard used patches or pieces of cut patches where children and pets cannot get to them1

LIDODERM is the only therapy for after-shingles pain that you can easily cut yourself to custom fit your area of pain. You can wear it under your clothing, and because the patch is thin and has no odor, no one will know you have it on. If your skin is sensitive to clothing or the air, the patch also provides a covering for your skin2,3. You should always wear it as directed by your healthcare professional.

Important Safety Information

You should not use this product if you are sensitive to local anesthetics such as lidocaine, or to any of the other ingredients in LIDODERM.

Even a used LIDODERM patch contains a large amount of lidocaine. A small child or a pet could suffer serious adverse effects from chewing or swallowing a new or used LIDODERM patch. Store and dispose of patches out of the reach of children, pets and others. Never reuse a patch.

LIDODERM patches should be worn for no more than 12 hours a day. Applying the patches for a longer time or using more than 3 patches could cause serious reactions.

Fold used patches so that the adhesive side sticks to itself, and safely discard used patches or pieces of cut patches where children and pets cannot get to them.

Avoid the use of external heat sources, such as heating pads or electric blankets, as this has not been studied.

Avoid contact of LIDODERM with the eye. If contact occurs, immediately wash the eye with water or saline and protect it until sensation returns.

Be sure to tell your healthcare professional if you have liver disease, are pregnant or nursing, or are taking medication for irregular heartbeat. For such people, LIDODERM should be used with caution.

Allergic reactions, though rare, can occur.

During or immediately after using LIDODERM, the skin around the patch may develop a change in color, colored spots, irritation, itching, flaking of the skin, rash, bruising, swelling, pimple-like raised skin, a cyst containing fluid, pain, burning, or abnormal sensation. These reactions are generally mild and go away on their own within a few minutes to hours. Other reactions may include dizziness, headache, and nausea. Tell your healthcare professional if you experience any of these symptoms while using LIDODERM.

Only your healthcare professional can determine if LIDODERM is right for you. Always follow your healthcare professional’s instructions when using LIDODERM.
